| List Of Suggested Items For Care Packages The following information is about items "we" send in our care packages at "SI Yellow Ribbon". Naturally, there are many items you might think of or send to your loved one that is not on our prepared list, however, these items are our most needed items through our Campaign. We encourage individuals, organizations, churches, schools, etc. to conduct drives to collect items We are in constant need of items so WE NEED YOUR HELP! |
| When a name is submitted to our Campaign we pack their "Intro Box" with a variety of necessity items, snack items, paper, pens and envelopes, etc., along with a packet about "who" we are and how we look forward to sending to them. It also contains a questionnaire for them to fill out that asks their wants, needs, favorites, what they have access to and don't have access to, etc. After that each care package is customized to that particular deployed soldiers needs/wants. Below you will find the items we most often send or have requests for. Necessity Items: baby wipes, deodorant (mens or womens), lip balm, eye drops, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, soap, sunblock, lotion, shampoo, no water hand sanitizer, non-aerosol bug repellant, mens and womens white socks, t-shirts (white or brown), underwear (For Females: tampons, pads, feminine wipes and non-aerosol body spray) (Please note: currently we are not in need of any more hotel size samples) Food Items: Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, Blow Pops or suckers, gum, any kind of individual snack items, cookies, candy and any type of bags of assorted candy, Little Debbie snack cakes, cereal, cereal bars, granola bars, Energy or Power bars, sunflower seeds, dried fruits, pop tarts, nuts, crackers, candy bars, chips (especially Pringles), pouch tuna or tuna kits, pudding or fruit cups, ramen noodles, small microwavable meals or soups, canned soups, Easy Mac, popcorn, coffee singles, cappucino, dry pre-sweetened Kool-aid mixes, any drink mixes such as Gatorade, Lemonade, Crystal Light, etc. (Also - plastic spoons, forks and gallon size clear ziploc baggies) Other: phone cards (AT&T or AAFES), notebooks, ink pens, envelopes, stationery, playing cards, crossword puzzle books, disposable cameras, batteries, small flashlights, electronic handheld games, bandanas, baseball caps (new please), DVD's, CD's, portable CD players, computer games (currently we are not in need of books, magazines or newspapers) Please NO: Aerosol or pressurized items, pornographic or provocative items, religious tracts, liquor, nothing glass and pork or pork by products. We also do not accept any homemade items. However, if you are mailing to a loved one and plan to send baked goods, if you contact us we can share desert-safe recipes, packaging tips, etc. OTHER ITEMS NEEDED: Besides the items needed for care packages, we have supplies that we use at our headquarters "for" the boxes that would be wonderful to get donated!! We get most of our boxes, tape, etc. free through USPS since we ship Priority, however we still use lots of gallon size Ziploc baggies (to seal up all the items in the care packages to prevent leaks and scents getting into the food items), white return address labels (Avery 8160) as we make all of our own return address labels and labels for the packages, etc., scotch tape, clear packaging tape (to cover all shipping labels), patriotic paper, note cards and other office supplies. Mailing There are restrictions, rules, paperwork etc. to have to be followed when mailing a care package to deployed military. Of course all boxes shipped out by us, we make sure everything is packaged accordingly, all paperwork is properly filled out, and that everything is done according to DOD regulation, postal regulations, military standards, etc. If you are mailing your own care packages make sure you following proper procedure and your customs forms are filled out correctly to insure delivery.
