| For the month of July "SI Yellow Ribbon" has launched a special project -- "Operation: Bill". Everyone is encouraged to donate a "Bill", whether it be a $1 bill, $5 bill, $10 bill or whatever you feel led to donate, to contribute to the postage funds to get much needed supplies and requests to our brave military stationed in foreign locations. Please read the press release below for more information..... “Operation: Bill” Kicks Off Independence Day weekend will mark the kick-off of a new campaign, “Operation: Bill”, to earn money for items to send to deployed military and the postage money to send the packages. It is being sponsored through the month of July by “SI Yellow Ribbon”, a voluntary, non-profit organization who has sent cards, letters and care packages and has lent support to soldiers’ families of literally thousands of our military who are stationed overseas during this time of conflict. Since the rotation of the troops the last couple of months there has been an increased number of submitted names and urgent requests given to the organization by soldiers families, friends, commanders and soldiers themselves. Often postage money has to be used to purchase these requests that have not been donated by community drives. Besides individuals being able to help in this July Campaign by donating a “bill”, businesses, church groups, youth groups, schools, and civic organizations are encouraged to set out collection boxes to collect needed items or to organize item or monetary drives among their members. Info on doing such projects can be obtained from “”SI Yellow Ribbon” and whether it be the proceeds of collections from a weekly Bible School, a project adopted by a club or money from a Poker Run, any amount raised great or small is greatly appreciated. As always cards, letters and drawings are always welcome to include in boxes. Besides regular necessity items and snacks, the greatest requested needs at present are dry Gatorade mix, canisters of pre-sweetened Kool-Aid, beef jerky, power or energy bars, microwavable meals or prepared lunch in tub meals, soups, Easy Mac, etc. Other requests include disposable cameras, new or used DVD movies, new or used music CD’s and recent issues of men’s magazines such as car and truck magazines, outdoor or sporting magazines, Men’s Health and news magazines. A full list of “needs” are listed on the Yellow Ribbon’s website. “Operation: Bill” is to not only serve as a reminder that even one dollar “Bill” can make a difference in the life of a soldier but also allows Americans to donate to not only the memory of the soldiers who have lost their lives that we might enjoy the freedom of our July 4th Independence Day but shows support to those still left serving in conflicts overseas. For more information on “SI Yellow Ribbon” or the “Operation: Bill” project, check out the groups website at www.siyellowribbon.com. “Bills” can be mailed to “SI Yellow Ribbon”, PO Box 602, Harrisburg, IL 62946. The organization headquarters is open Monday-Friday from 1-3pm or by appointment anytime at 315 East Poplar, Harrisburg where soldiers names can be submitted, donations dropped off or purchase items such as yellow ribbon car magnets, large yellow bows, lapel pins and bumper stickers with the profit going to soldiers boxes. For any further info call (618) 252-7721 or (618) 926-1299 or email siyellowribbon@onemain.com . “Operation: Bill”, that will continue throughout the month of July, will prove that even a one dollar bill when given in a cooperative and unified spirit of Americans bonding together in a patriotic common cause can accomplish big things. As Americans, the soldiers who are fighting for us in overseas conflicts have given us no “bill” for their services and sacrifice but in gratitude we can give a “bill” paid to them in appreciation. ***To donate to this project, donations can be mailed to us or you will find a "paypal" link on the main page of the website.
